The first-ever Heart of Gold Race on November 20 was a huge success, with more than 200 riders, perfect weather and a ton of support for the event that raised money for teen mental wellness programs in Nevada County and raised awareness: Bright Futures for Youth; Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern Sierra; Child Advocates; Nevada Joint Union High School District; Tahoe-Truckee Unified School District; and Youth Bicyclists of Nevada County (YBONC).
The Heart of Gold race started at the Eric Rood Administration Center in Nevada City, and went through western Nevada County, including over the Yuba River (twice), through the historic towns of North Bloomfield and Washington, and up very steep hills.
Many thanks to the organizers, volunteers, sponsors and, of course, the riders.
YubaNet covered the event.
